CNN’s chief data analyst, Harry Enten, has raised concerns about Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s political standing, citing a significant drop in support among New York Democrats. Enten discussed the findings on CNN News Central, referencing a recent Siena College poll that indicates Schumer’s favorability has plummeted from 73% in December 2024 to just 52%.
“I never thought I’d see the day in which just 52% of New York Democrats view Chuck Schumer favorably. It’s almost unfathomable,” Enten remarked. He also highlighted that only 50% of New York Democrats believe Schumer should continue as Senate leader, while 48% think he should step down. Enten emphasized that these numbers suggest a potential primary challenge, especially considering Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s higher favorability ratings among Democrats.
Schumer, who has represented New York in the Senate since 1999 and led the Senate Democratic Caucus since 2017, now faces mounting pressure from within his party. The poll results indicate a growing dissatisfaction with his leadership, signaling possible challenges ahead.
